What does meth use have to do with the environment?

The process in which the creation of meth takes place is in a meth lab. A meth lab can operate for years, causing a serious health hazard for you and your family. It can appear anywhere, without notice and you might never know about it - until it is too late. Meth can be produced in as few as 6-9 hours using appartus and cookware that can be dismantled rapidly and stored or relocated to avoid detection. What is often behind large amounts of highly toxic waste which gets dumped in your back yards, back alleys and back roads. Poisonous gases from a lab can contaminate the homes or places they are cooked in and cause you serious harm.

What are the Hazards?

Through the meth cooking process, gasses and other toxic combination are produced including:

  • Phosphorous - Inhalation of phosphine gas is lethal
  • Ethyl Ether Hazards - Colorless liquid with anesthetic odor, highly flammable, vapors can cause respiratory distress and death
  • Anhydrous Hazards - Colorless gas, vapors can cause respiratory distress and death, liquid can cause skin burns
  • Hydrogen Chloride Hazards - Colorless gas, causes sever burns to throat and lungs, inhalation can be fatal
  • Lithium Hazards - Extremely dangerous in contact with moisture or water, may ignite spontaneously in air

These are just a portion of the many hazardous vapors produced during the meth cooking process. This can be happening in your neighborhood virtually undetected. Only together can we can we become part of the solution and rid our communities of these hazardous labs
